Living the Bohemian life in Manhattan's East Village, a group of friends are challenged physically and emotionally by HIV, drug abuse, social tension and pennilessness among other troubles caused by their ex-roommate, new landlord Benny. Despite all that, Mark (an independent filmmaker), Maureen (a wannabe performance artist), Joanne (a public interest lawyer), Roger (a struggling musician), Mimi (a drug addict club dancer), Collins (an anarchist professor), and Angel (a drag queen street musician) decide to face their fears and problems head on.
